With the advent of computers, life became easier for us humans in countless ways. One of which, is the immediate translation of texts or audio files. Some may believe computer translation capabilities make personal proficiency in foreign languages less of an advantage and utterly a waste of time. This essay strongly disagrees with this notion since learning a new language helps broaden one's horizon and computer translations are full of errors and cannot be trusted without expert supervision. Language skills may have become less important per se, but it's the process of learning a new language that adds value. Countless language experts believe that learning a new language opens a door to an entirely new world to us. Sincebecause through language you become aware of the moral values and cultural norms of the speakers of it. In my stance, learning a new language adds to one's intellect and intelligence and the importance of its effects on a person's skillset apart from the language itself, should not be ignored. Despite the developments in computer technology and artificial intelligence, there isare yet many errors in the translations carried out by computers, meaning such translations require human expert judgement to approve their credibility. In other words, computer translation capabilities are advantageous but inadequate. Therefore, they require constant expert supervision. To sum it up, in spite of the fact that computer translation capabilities can come to our rescue at times, such capabilities cannot solely eliminate our dependence on our own knowledge of foreign languages. Above all that, learning new languages facilitates personal and professional development through the improvement of one's soft skills.
