Car ownership has increased so rapidly over the past thirty years that many cities in the world are now ‘one big traffic jam’ How true do you think this statement is? What measures can governments take to discourage people from using their car? The past 30 years have seen considerable increase in car ownership in the a large number of cities around the world. Due to this phenomenon, the most people believe that cities are confronted with traffic congestion which is one of the major problems that governments face it. I think there are a lot of solution that governments can aim implement to deal with this. Excess of traffic jams has some drawbacks. First and the most important, most cars are driven by fossil fuels which emit detrimental gasses like carbon dioxide that cause air pollution. Consequently, It has more side effects for people especially children and old-people. Moreover, people waste a lot of time during traffic hours. Because of them governments should deter people to use their private car/transport. Using an efficient public transport system is an attractive idea. Public buses, taxis, trains are a viable alternative to the private cars. Governments must encourage people to use them by improving the facilities of them, such as provide new buses and build new stations especially near busy places and shopping centers, and decrease the cost of using them. Another way to encourage car owners to use public transport is that governments impose high tax on cars. Governments they can enforceurge citizens to pay extra money for travelling in busy areas at the peak traffic periods. In conclusion, the number of people who use private cars around the cities are is growth growing more and more which cause some negative effects like traffic congestion. Governments should make every effort to solve this problems such as persuading people to use public transportation in a variety of ways.
