TPO extra 1 _ 422 words People learn things better from those at their own level such as fellow students or co-workers than from those at a higher level, such as teachers or supervisors. Agree or disagree? Assessing that whether people learn better from their peers or from someone who is in an upper level than them is not easy at all and is considered quite controversial and depends on learners’ character and personality. However, to my mind people can learn things better from someone who is in a same level as them than a higher level person and I have two points in support of my view. To begin with, people in same age, with the same education and social level are more likely to understand each other’s issues for they might face it before. Based on some research, the more similar is one person to another, the more him/her can affect and teach the other person. Moreover, students in same level or co-workers have similar experiences and a better understanding of their issues, so their effort to learn from their counterparts is more effective than learning from their teachers or bosses. To give an illustration of what I mean, let’s look at my own case. When I used to go to university, I had trouble with some lessons even if the professor tried her best to solve my problem she did not succeed, having said that I learnt those lessons from my class mates. Secondly, learning from counterparts not only is more effective, but also is more feasible. Due to the fact that people are more comfortable with their peers than their teachers or bosses they can talk about their problems with their class mates or their co-workers more openly. They even can ask them to set a time out of work time in order for their peers to help them learn the lessons or a specific job or task. Not to mention its positive impact on their socialization. These kind of interacts between same-age people can develop their interactions and social behavior. For instance, new generation schools divide students in groups and inquire them to discuss their comprehension of the last lesson and help their group members to solve their misunderstood of the lesson. On the other hand, some people believe that learning from people in the upper level is better because they believe in that person and can trust him/her. To cut a long story short, learning from counterparts has many advantages, one of whom is that cognitive learning and its effectiveness. Also we can count the intimacy among peers and its effect on developing their social behavior and personality as another advantages of the idea that people learn better from people in their own level.
