It is important to children to learn the difference between right and wrong at an early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn this distinction. To what extent do you agree or disagree whit this opinion? 310 words / 60 min This topic has been a root moot point for decades on. Scientists believe that there is always a more rational way to lie lay down ground rules for adolescents instead of punishment. My firm conviction is that physical punishment should be the last measure/resort of parenting. The subsequent paragraphs will shed some light on this statement. It is no secret that before the age of reason barely could an infant understand why he or she has been pushed for. Thus, it does not seem like an informed approach to adopt any kind of punishment since the child did has not acquired the ability to recognize the purpose of it. Once the age of reason has been reached, children could perceive the reason why they had been rewarded or discouraged. At this stage, parents and teachers should try to encourage the child to absorb moral patterns of behavior by rewarding and discouraging. It has been proved that harsh punishment has obvious regretful catastrophic consequences on the child’s personality development. Before taking any serious action about the children’s misbehavior, anyone who is responsible for them has to ask himself, “Have I entirely been a positive role model? “. Parents and teachers should firstly provide their children with good role modeling and then if the children still did not follow the moral rules, they might take more serious actions such as detention and withdrawal of the privileges. Nevertheless, child psychologists strongly recommend that the punishment should not be of a physical nature because they believe school bullying, juvenile delinquency, and smoking at an early age are in a direct correlation with the harsh home-punishment. To put it in nutshell, any physical punishment might inevitably entail negative consequences unintended by the parents. Therefore, optimum conscience development of the child requires perseverance, punctuation patience and a huge amount of time. As a result, parents who possess them may expect a brighter future for their children.
