Page 191 of Saadaat Jozveh: It is inevitable that as technology develops so traditional cultures must be lost. Technology and tradition are incompatible – you cannot have both together. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? I definitely disagree that technology will bring about any damage to traditional cultures. Therefore, in my opinion not only are traditions and technology indeed compatible, but also the benefits of the two of them being combined would be beyond our expectations. Firstly, I strongly believe that the advances in technology will not cause people’s customs to be forgotten. On the contrary, I am of the opinion that the more technology develops, the more cultural behaviors will be preserved. For instance, due to the fact that today many people are eager to know about their ancestors’ accustoms they, especially young people, have developed a new appreciation for the Internet while they are only one click away from either watching or reading them online. Secondly, we have nothing to be proud of if we fail to protect previous cultures from my vantage point. Therefore, nowadays people are keeping them alive with the help of technology. Finally, technology itself is giving a new color to the past traditions. Using social network-applications like Facebook and Instagram have showed us that how enthusiastic much people are enthusiastic about sharing everything, traditions included, about the places they have visited with their friends. To be more expressive, today’s farmers for example are still adhering to the lifestyles and customs their ancestors were used to although they are using tractors instead of animals to harvest their crops. Furthermore, while books are in danger of getting spoiled over time, technological facilities and online resources might pave make the way for cultural customs to remain intact,. take the Internet as a vivid example where you may find every specific pieces of information unharmed and untouched on reliable websites. In conclusion, advances in technology is are not detrimental to traditional cultures at all and they are indeed compatible with each other from my perspective.
