In western countries, people spend a lot of money on their pets. They buy special food for their cats or dogs, buy them toys and often pay high fees for their medical treatments. Some people think this is a waste of money, and argue that pets are dirty and dangerous. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a pet? Do people spend too much money on pets? Having a pet has become a common trend in many countries these days which has its own pros and cons. In this essay, both sides are discussed. Keeping a pet is more prevailing in western countries where the habit of marriage and forming the family is fading gradually and more people tend to live alone day by day. Lots of individuals prefer to have pets rather than dealing with other humans to fill their loneliness; this way they also satisfy their need of taking care of somebody or looking after someone. Those who have Pets at home always admit this fact that an emotional tie between them and their pet is undeniable. Moreover, sometimes accommodating animals in a warm and safe place benefits pets as well in that they can live in a condition where the food is ready and someone cares about/for them all the time! On the other hand, it could also lead to some negative results. For example, presence of animals inside a home might affect health of the home inhabitants; it has been proven/it is proved that people who keep animals and birds at home are more prone to some specific diseases like asthma or different types of allergies. Financial costs and several headaches of keeping a pet is are another disadvantage which is imposed to on animal owners. They bear almost a huge cost monthly for their food, hygiene and other needs. All in all, I believe although keeping a pet has numerous advantages for people, spending too much money on this purpose is condemned in the a world where many poor people are deprived of even enough little food. Thus, it seems a little rather unjustified/nonsense to expend a lot of resources on making animals happy!
