TOPIC: There has been a huge increase in the size of cities. Many cities have grown in a haphazard way. Why is careful planning important in the development of cities? As consequence of increasing rural migrations and population growth nowadays cities have been grown steadily. Therefore, planning especially in major projects such as city development would play a key role. There are some reasons why careful planning is important in the development of cities. As populations grow and cities become more crowded, there is enormous pressure on the through government to provide accommodation, offices and factories. Population growth needs more facilities to meet these requirements. More and more agricultural lands are being used as building lands. To address the hazard of the development of infrastructures careful planning is of paramount importance. For instance, planners should consider efficient water delivery services and inadequate sewage disposal systems as a basic need for all cities. An increase in population, unplanned city development and unlicensed construction are usually associated with growth of urban sprawl which leads to environmental, social and economic impacts. Increased public costs, energy consumption and unemployment rate are a few some results of poor planning. The quality of life of the inhabitants will be threatened unless required action is taken by the municipality. Furthermore, lifestyle issues also benefit from proper planning. It can provide efficient and effective infrastructure, which leads to decent living standards such as higher quality of public services, a drastic decline in the rate of unemployment and more hygienic living conditions. The more time spent on planning, the more comfortable environment could be provided. In conclusion, it is clear that planning proper policies need to be designed to limit the growth of urban sprawl but it won't happen overnight and every efforts must be made in this regard.
